Lack of sleep and stress could cause your weight gain?

It is normal to gain in weight if you start taking in more on calories

than usual or you cut on exercise or mostly combination of both

but

does lack of sleep and stress could cause your weight gain?

There are two issues at work with sleep and weight gain.

The first is intuitive,

If you’re up late, you’ll probably eat some late night snacks

that will increase your calorie intake.

The second reason involves what’s going on biochemically

when you’re sleep deprived.

Changes in hormone levels increase hunger and appetite

and also make you feel less full after eating.

When life’s demands get too intense, our body goes into survival mode.

Cortisol, the ‘stress hormone,‘ is produced and it causes an increase in appetite.

You may also reach for high-calorie “comfort foods” in times of stress.

This combination is a perfect breeding ground for weight gain.

How to lower cortisol the stress hormone?

1, Sleep It Off

The most effective stress-reduction strategy of all!

It will lower cortisol the stress hormone

It will lower ghrelin a hunger-boosting hormone

Sleep for 7 – 9 hours I would say.

2, Regular exercise

It will reduce the production of your stress hormone.

What it does is it fools your body into thinking you’re escaping

the source of your stress.

3 times per week, 12 times per month, 12 months per year.

That what we do here on bootcamp at Meersbrook and at Meadowhead School.

3, Have a breakfast that’s high in below stated nutrients.

as deficiencies in

  • B vitamins
  • C vitamin
  • calcium
  • magnesium

are stressful to your body,

so a large handful of strawberries to supply vitamin C,

a natural organic yogurt contains calcium and magnesium

whole grain bagel (bursting with B vitamins) with a bit of peanut butter (fatty acids that can decrease the production of stress hormones)

4, Skip coffee

Did you know that caffeine raises cortisol levels more than stress alone?

Try  the healthier option organic decaf coffee even though you will find some caffeine there too but about 10 times less.

The best option would be Tulsi tea as it helps lowering the cortisol level.
