I was asked recently by my friend Abi about machines in the gym and which is the best one and why and at the end we had a quite a bit chat about it so I thought it may be beneficial information for you too.
Firstly machines don’t work for fat loss/weight loss.
Have a think.
It is actually quite straight forward.
They don’t work because what they actually do is isolating one group muscle at the time so it takes much longer to get your body stronger and they are not burning much calories either.
Compare to the exercises we do at our bootcamps where we working out more muscles in same time so we integrate a lot of different movements together.
So get of the machines guys!
And from cardio machines too!
Think about the treadmill, there is a belt which carries you and you do the step and the belt caries you again a bit so the treadmill is doing half work for you.
Best exercise you want to do is push your body weight.
Probably a lot of you have tried some cardio machines in the gym and there is the fat burn zone and cardio zone.
There is a little bit of myth.
What is happening is, it says if you go 60% of your maximum heart rate you will burn this amount of calories and if you working 80% you will be burning this amount.
They say that fat burning zone is the zone you will be burning the fat.
Yes, in theory you will be burning more calories from fat but you will have to stay longer.
So if I ask you what do you prefer 80% of £100 or 50% £1000, what would you prefer?
I know I would go for 50% of £1000.
Let’s compare the treadmill where in one hour you burn approx 600-700 calories to HIIT (high intensity interval training) where you will be burning over 1000 calories due your session plus you will be burning calories up to 36 hours in much higher rate.
Another question Abi asked was what exercise to do for losing fat on specific body parts.
Remember that when you lose body fat you can’t spot reduce, so when you lose it comes off from your whole body, it’s just that areas like your upper body don’t carry so much fat as your mid section.
Abi also asked me what about sit ups or stomach crunches.
Are they any good for burning fat from your belly?
If you got fat over you abs you will never see your abs no matter what abdominal exercise you do plus it takes 250 000 sit ups to burn 1 pound of fat that’s 684 sit ups every day.
That was actually in Men’s Health Magazine. That’s study which was made in 2011.

There are more myths about weight loss so I will tell some of them again next Monday around 11am.
